Black Bounds | Christopher Harrison

Artist Statement
 My current practice focuses on combining figuration and abstraction in my paintings and sculpture as a framework for referencing Black bodies in emotional transformation. I feel it’s important to share the anecdotes of struggle and perseverance that have defined the Black race in a conceptual and impactful way. I see the need for alternate voices to be heard in our art institutions to inform, reflect and develop interest about the Black experience for future generations. I want to create a concrete space that stays true to this place in time.

Artist Bio
 Christopher E. Harrison (1965) is a fine artist, public artist and designer with his studio located in Minneapolis. He has exhibited locally, national and internationally. As a designer, his clients include Best Buy, BBDO and the University of Minnesota. His artist grants include the Minnesota State Arts Board, Metropolitan Regional Arts Council and the Jerome Foundation, the Elizabeth Murray Foundation Artist Residency, the Pollack Krasner Foundation, the Andy Warhol Foundation and MRAC Next Step. He is currently an adjunct Professor of Drawing at the University of MN-Twin Cities.
