About the Artists
ANDREA JENKINS is an American policy aide, politician, writer, performance artist, poet, and transgender activist. She is known for being the first African-American openly transgender woman elected to public office in the United States, serving since January 2018 on the Minneapolis City Council. Inspired by the work of Carl Wesley, a graphic artist who is currently serving time in Stillwater Prison and creates portraits of musical icons like Billie Holiday, Notorious B.I.G., Tupac and many others, Jenkins reaches back into history to tell a story, often with words appearing to explore the connection between language and imagery. "Ultimately, I'm influenced by the work of Kara Walker and Frida Kahlo (you will see them both appearing in the work in some form or fashion), two women artists who took, or in the case of Walker, continues to take risks."
COLIN LEO is an artist of many mediums including painting, photography, collage and audio landscapes. Surreal yet surprisingly authentic scenescapes, Leo often portrays himself as an icon surrounded by hip-hop imagery, scantily clad women, cryptic messages, and even his mother. Leo, from Richfield, MN, has made thousands of paintings and collages, and the collection of pieces in this exhibit are a combination of colorful abstract acrylic visions and the collages represent the fantastical, stylistic imagery that aims to both satisfy and shock at the same time. "I believe in supernatural influence from universal love energy that connects us all." Contact: towelbreather@yahoo.com | 651-707-5024

JACQUI JUVLAND is a Minneapolis-based collage artist who uses dreamy blends of images inspired by the post-hippie art of the 70's, enticing the viewer with serene scenes and a sense of peace. "Collage has always been my go-to. I use it as a way of meditation. My favorite is 60’s psychedelic. Wes Wilson the father of psychedelic concert posters is a big inspiration of mine. The color exploding creating vibrating images with bold patterns and melting shapes build for a deep experience." www.inkpadnotepad.com
JODI BEE is a Minneapolis based collage artist, illustrator, and teacher. Bee's collage is decoratively embellished, highly refined and meticulously arranged to create harmony, balance, and a feeling of wholeness. She incorporates complex mixed media techniques through rendering, outlining, metallic leafing, iridescent papers, as well as textural surface treatments that evolve the artwork beyond the collage base to a more embellished aesthetic. "I draw inspiration from many sources, most of those I draw from visually are patterns found in nature, however, the surreal, symbolic language of dreams play a big role in how I build a collage, connecting disparate ideas together, linking them in a new narrative or enriching the expression of an idea." www.jodibee.com
PHIL HARDER is a music video director, film-maker, musician and commercial director based in Minneapolis, New York, and Los Angles. Harder's filmography spans decades and includes the music videos of Prince, Foo Fighters, Polica, Liz Phair, Babes in Toyland, Trampled By Turtles, Har Mar Superstar, Pulp, The Cranberries, Barenaked Ladies, Matchbox Twenty, Afghan Whigs and many others.
