Come see an exhibition featuring the art and stories that came out of COMPAS Teaching Artists Amy Wilderson and Shakun Maheshwari recent art residencies at Minnesota African American Heritage Museum & Gallery and SEWA-AIFW. Participants were invited to journey through art forms deeply rooted in their cultural heritage.
At SEWA-AIFW, a nonprofit organization committed to enhancing family wellness within the South Asian community, older adults delighted in the captivating folk arts of India. They immersed themselves in the intricate artistry of mandalas, the playful creativity of sand art, and the expressive joy of painting, unlocking their inner creativity in the process.
In another inspiring setting, an intergenerational group at the Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery honed their skills in wire work, crafting exquisite, one-of-a-kind sculptural jewelry. Each piece resonated with cherished personal objects and family heirlooms, weaving together stories of love and legacy.
This enriching initiative was made possible in part by the Minnesota Humanities Center (MHC) through funding from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. This fund stands as a testament to the collective vision of the people of Minnesota, who voted for its establishment on November 4, 2008, highlighting the power of community and cultural expression.
