Yoshi Nakamura is a 2021 Mid-Career Fellow at Franconia Sculpture Park. In this "Dinner & Discussion" lecture, he will discuss his career and upcoming installation at Franconia Sculpture Park. In the fall of 2021, Nakamura will design and construct 12 architectural spaces inspired by traditional Japanese tea rooms that function as interactive sound installations tuned to 12 different frequencies. 

Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1978, artist Yoshi Nakamura holds a BFA, MFA and PHD in Traditional Japanese Painting from Tokyo University of the Arts, and an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He will be a 2021 Mid-Career Fellow at Franconia Sculpture Park and has received the 2020 Mount Royal Fellowship from MICA, the 2019 US-Japan Creative Arts Fellowship, the 2019 Emerging Artists Fellowship from the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs, the 2018 Leslie King Hammond Graduate Fellowship from MICA, the 2013 Duskin Ainowa Fellowship for Americans with Disabilities, and the 2009 Ikuo Hirayama Fellowship. His work has been exhibited across the world through performances, installations, and artworks in galleries, museums, and public institutions in Japan, Taiwan, New York, and Baltimore.
