Emergence: Creativity, Illness and Healing

Hopkins Center for the Arts is proud to present Emergence: Creativity, Illness and Healing, an exhibition of paintings and sculptural installations by Gail Wallinga in the HCA Upper Lobby Gallery.

Bringing awareness to invisible disability, this exhibition depicts various stages of Gail Wallinga’s healing journey from Lyme disease. In paintings and sculptural installations, she demonstrates beauty and how meaningful creations can emerge from arduous experiences.

About the Artist:
GAIL WALLINGA is a queer artist living with disability. She was born and raised in a suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota and has always been a maker. Even as a child she was enamored with color, pattern, texture and materials. She makes art as a method of introspection, a map of her emotional landscape and a connection to all that unites us.

She received a BA in Psychology from the University of Montana and a BFA in Graphic Design from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She currently makes visual art in her Minneapolis studio.

Gallery Hours:
Monday- Friday: 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
