Light Over Boundary | Allegra Lockstadt

Silverwood Park Gallery presents Light Over Boundary, featuring the work of Allegra Lockstadt.

In Light Over Boundary, Allegra Lockstadt shares intimate paintings depicting scenes and spaces at night, and she also shares a collection of paintings that feature plants found on the edges of trail systems and fields. Both of these subject matters explore the definition of arbitrary and intentional spatial boundaries while further questioning what’s visible versus hidden, what’s public versus private, and what is meant for all versus just a few.

Bio: Allegra Lockstadt was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada (Mississauga First Nations land), raised in Lexington, Kentucky (Cherokee land), and since 2006, she has lived in the Twin Cities in Minnesota (Dakota land). She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2010 from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and works as a freelance illustrator, designer, muralist, and interdisciplinary artist for local and international clients. Allegra’s creative practice is rooted in painting and drawing, wherein she captures everyday moments and spaces.

Artist Statement: Working primarily in acrylics on paper and on canvas, Allegra Lockstadt has developed a plein air and studio painting practice wherein she captures scenes at night, and depicts small plants on the edges of trail systems and fields. For Lockstadt, Both of these subject matters investigate the balance of viewing nature and spaces as something that is visible, intentional, and direct, and as something that may be ignored, hidden, incidental, or even mundane. In the process of highlighting these subjects, Lockstadt explores the definition of arbitrary and intentional spatial boundaries while further questioning what’s public versus private, and what is meant for all versus just a few.

Presented concurrently with Our Built Environment | Angela St. Vrain.
