A unique exhibition showcasing a collection of one-of-a-kind paintings and illustrations by Ojibwe artist Robert DesJarlait.
Robert DesJarlait paints and draws what gives meaning to him as an individual - things Ojibwe-Anishinaabe. He approaches his art from a tribal (i.e., Ojibwe-Anishinaabe) perspective. Through his art, he is able to visualize - and communicate to a broader audience - particular facets of the Ojibwe-Anishinaabe experience.
He describes the essence of his work as follows: “My paintings are personal visions of a tribal reality. My stylized, figurative images compose a micro-/macro-scopic Ojibwe universe. Interwoven in this universe are creation stories, history, customs and traditions, and my central theme – Ojibwe Manidoowiwin, the tribal spirit of the Ojibwe people.”
