Paintings by Michelle Plombon and monotypes by Genie Castro
Gallery One is pleased to present two exhibitions, just in time for the holidays.
ABST_ACTION / Paintings by Michelle Plombon
Michele Plombone explores and experiments with colors. She creates marks, lines, shapes, repeat patterns and color fields. She spreads large amounts of paint on paper, runs texture tools through it rapidly to create a shape with texture marks. Then she applies the paper directly on the canvas. Currently, using this stamping technique, she is creating bold architectural shapes and patterns with heavy textile like surfaces.
ColorWorks / Monotypes by Genie Castro
Genie Castro prints in a freeform method utilizing the principles of abstract painting and the formality of traditional print making. Her monotypes are one of a kind and traditionally printed on paper. She begins each artwork by drawing with a lithography crayon on a large Plexiglass plate. The piece evolves using palette knives, brushes and brayers to fill in the layers of colors. The image is then transferred onto a sheet of paper by pressing the two together, using a printing press.
