Artist Statement:  

Minneapolis based painter and mixed media artist Halle Rittgers creates work that investigates the relationships between memory, play, movement, and meditation. Her work emphasizes the intentional and layered process in creating balanced compositions. Each painting starts with playful experimentation as the brush meets the canvas, and advances into thoughtful exploration. She sees her art as something hopeful and healing, always moving towards harmony and balance within each piece. She implements a sophisticated and refined use of color and form on raw canvas. Each mark holds its own, while also being imperative to the composition as a whole. There is an ongoing conversation between the gestural marks and various shapes, and emphasis is placed on materiality as she explores the way textures and materials work together to form a balanced composition. They are playful, yet grounding.
