The Still Life + Nocturnes: Dusk till Dawn

The Still Life + Nocturnes: Dusk till Dawn

An opening night reception on October 19, 2024, celebrates the debut of two new exhibitions at Praxis Gallery & Photographic Arts Center in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis.

This event is free and open to the public. Guests are invited to mingle with artists and fellow photography enthusiasts while exploring four galleries of contemporary photographic art and enjoying complimentary refreshments. Twenty-three Minnesota artists are featured in group shows, along with artists from twenty-two other states and five foreign countries.

New! Gallery 1: The Still Life

Praxis Gallery presents photographic art that investigates the genre of the Still Life. Submissions may explore classical to conceptual aspects of the still life, photographing object arrangements that intrigue, engage or entertain the viewer.

New! Gallery 2: Nocturnes: Dusk till Dawn

“Night does not show things, it suggests them. It disturbs and surprises us with its strangeness. It liberates forces within us which are dominated by our reason during the daytime.” ―Brassai

Praxis Gallery presents photographic art that explores the fundamental qualities that make night photography—from dusk till dawn—a compelling contemporary art form.

Ongoing - Gallery 3: Born on the Midways of Mid America

“I’m thrilled to share a behind-the-scenes look at lives we don’t usually see. This family travels eight months of the year; Dad is a Midway Supervisor and Mom homeschools the kids. As the kids enter their teen years, questions arise about their schooling, travel, and eventual career choices.” – Debra.

Ongoing - Gallery 4: Lyon ~ Redux

Most of the images in this exhibit were taken in Lyon, France, between 1974 and 1988. I found Lyon to be a fascinating place to explore, offering countless observation spots. All artwork presented in the Chemistry Gallery is created using traditional photo-chemical processes.

Gallery Hours:
Saturdays Noon–5PM and by appointment, during exhibition dates
