yödoishëndahgwa'geh (a place for rest) | Rosy Simas

yödoishëndahgwa’geh is inter-sensorial space of moving image and sound by Simas and her collaborative composer François Richomme. The intention of the space is to contribute to the healing of generations on the river behind us - our ancestors, and in front of us - generations yet to be born.

yödoishëndahgwa’geh is a part of a larger three-year project by Simas. She who lives on the road to war is being developed in response to our global loss and the collective need to grieve, to condole, and to come together in peace and reconciliation.

Rosy Simas is a transdisciplinary and dance artist who has historically presented her work as a choreographer. Simas’ projects merge movement with media, sound, and objects for stage and installation. She unites cultural concepts and images with scientific and philosophical theories to create work that is literal, abstract, and metaphoric. Her work weaves themes of personal and collective identity with family, sovereignty, equality, and healing. She creates dance work with a team of Native artists and artists of color, driven by movement-vocabularies developed through deep listening.

Her dance works include Weave, Skin(s) and We Wait In The Darkness which have toured Turtle Island and France with the support of NEFA National Dance Project, MAP Fund, and National Performance Network.

Rosy Simas is a fiscal year 2021 recipient of a Creative Support/or Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. yödoishëndahgwa’geh is made possible, in part, by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

yödoishëndahgwa’geh is supported by a grant from the National Performance Network FY21 Documentation & Storytelling Fund. Simas’ research for yödoishëndahgwa’geh was supported by a 2021 Pamela Beatty Mitchell Residency in Contemporary Dance at Colorado College Department of Theater and Dance.

All My Relations Arts (AMRA) operates the All My Relations Gallery, Minnesota’s premier American Indian owned and operated contemporary fine arts gallery. Located on Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis, the gallery resides within the heart of the American Indian Cultural Corridor.
