Public Functionary (PF) supports multidisciplinary arts and cultural organizing and production across disciplines: visual art, performance, music, and more. PF has done this work since 2012 through the development of highly visible and resourced spaces to support creative collaborations by early career and emerging artists. Launched in 2019, PF Studios, led by artist Leslie Barlow are intentional artist practice spaces centering BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) artists and cultural producers.
The program includes (but is not limited to) artists who work in Drawing, Painting, Collage/Mixed Media, Photography, Digital Media, Textiles, Design, Public Art, Sculpture, Film, Music, Sound, and Installation. Artists who are self-taught and artists who are traditionally educated are equally valued. Public Functionary and PF Studios are located in the Northrup King Building in NE Minneapolis.
